About the Brisbane Diving Divas

Welcome to the Brisbane Diving Divas’ site!

We know that sexuality has nothing to do with scuba diving or vice versa. Seriously, diving safety and training is not going be any different whoever you prefer to spend your bedtime with. However, would it be more fun to be in the company of queer women and men who would not bat an eyelash, natural or otherwise, when divers don bright-pink togs under their wetsuits? And we are not talking about the ladies yet!

The Brisbane Diving Divas is a newly-formed and only scuba club that caters to the LGBTI community of Brisbane and beyond. Established in May 2007, the club aims to organize regular social events and dives for beginning and advanced level divers in a safe, fun, friendly and supportive environment.

Eunice Coogan, a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and Emere Distor, a history teacher and diving enthusiast are the coordinators of the Brisbane Diving Divas. Both have recently returned from Koh Tao, Thailand where Eunice spent five months continuing her diver’s education — without sacrificing the ‘fun’ component, of course :). It was upon their return from overseas when the idea of an LGBTI scuba club came to fruition.

The idea of a dive club for lesbians and gays is not new but it is a long time coming for queer Queenslanders to both enjoy the climate and company especially when scuba diving. So join us and enjoy the experience of the underwater world hand-in–hand, cheek-to-cheek or hand-on-cheek and if you so wish, even in leopard-print or in bright-pink togs :).
